Sleek Matte Me Lip Cream & MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer Reviews

Before I found out about Lime Crime, I have never heard of lip products that are applied liquid then dry matte. Unfortunately Lime Crime is not based in the UK but I knew I needed something similar in my life so I started doing some research. I found out that Sleek have similar ones that are called "Matte me lip cream". I was so excited I had to purchase them immediately. The colour choices are very nice so I purchased 4 colours out of 6. They cost £4.99 in Superdrugs and I think it's a very reasonable price. The packaging is very nice so even though it's cheap it doesn't look cheap.

The colours I purchased were 436 Birthday Suit, 435 Petal, 434 Party Pink and 432 Brink Pink.

The colours are very vibrant and pigmented. It is very touch proof, so it lasts even after eating and drinking etc. In fact I have difficulties removing it. Some of the colours are very hard to apply and build up and can appear a bit patchy. I don't really like the texture as it is very drying- and by drying I mean it will suck all the moisture out of your lips. So by the end of the day if you don't reapply your lips will look like broken pieces of puzzle.

My favorite colours are Petal and Party pink. Petal can be a bit pale on my skin tone but I am sure it will look gorgeous on ladies with lighter skin tones. Party pink is actually not really pink but I would say more red-ish with a slight tone of orange. I don't like the other 2 so much. Birthday suit is brown-ish pink colour which makes me look like a dead body and Brink Pink is a very bright neon pink which is also not really my cup of tea.

This is how they look on my lips taken with my DSLR camera with natural light.

After purchasing I bunch of these, I found out MUA ( Make up Academy) have similar ones in their Luxe range called "Velvet Lip Lacquer" so I tried one in colour "Reckless". They have 5 colours in total and their colour choices are very similar to Sleek ones. They are for £3 from Superdrugs (super cheap!).

This is how they look like.

Sorry, stole the picture from blogger Emma Pickles.

The colour I bought swatched on my hand.
The reason I'm reviewing this product eventhough I bought only 1 colour is because I was very impressed with the texture. Unlike Sleek matte me, it doesn't feel like you are applying colours using a marker pen on your lips. It is less touch proof but still long lasting with very smooth application and less drying. If I had to choose I would definately go for MUA Lip lacquers.

I hope this review was useful and if you want me to review anything else please leave a comment.

  1. In my instagram photo that you just liked I was wearing one of the sleek colours! I love their colour but I'm not too sure about the texture and how they feel on the lips, I think it's so weird haha! Anyway, I said I had followed so thought I'd share some blog love too :) X
